Джим Керри родился 17 января 1962 года в городе Нью-Маркет, Канада. Джима, доставлявшего дома и в школе много хлопот своими выходками, тоже иногда считали не совсем здоровым ребенком. Его любимым занятием в то время было корчить рожи, он часами мог стоять перед зеркалом, оттачивая свое мастерство, не зная тогда, что когда-нибудь оно коренным образом изменит его судьбу.
В 16 лет состоялся дебют Керри-комика на сцене одного из местных клубов. Выступление оказалось полностью провальным, но Джим, в отличие от своего отца, не привык сдаваться так просто, и продолжал пробовать себя снова и снова, выступая в различных клубах со своими искрометными пародиями на различных знаменитостей. Но главной целью Джима было прорваться на большой экран и он начал брать уроки актерского мастерства. Вскоре его заметили и стали приглашать на второстепенные роли в телесериалы и кинокартины. Так начиналась звездная карьера Керри-актера.
1994 год по праву можно назвать годом Джима Керри. Он ворвался на верхушки хит-парадов со своим фильмом "Эйс Вентура: Розыск домашних животных" /Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, 1994/, затем подкрепил этот успех суперхитом "Маска" /The Mask, 1994/ и наконец закончил свое победное шествие по американским кинотеатрам суперкомедией "Тупой и еще тупее" /Dumb and Dumber, 1994/.
